One Freedom Foundation
This integrated studio focused on the existing FDR Memorial designed by Louis Kahn. It was built around an existing plot of land directly before the memorial and would serve as a gallery to "The Four Freedoms" outlined by FDR himself.
This desgin drew inspiration from projects like Louis Kahns "Fisher House", and Peter Zumthors "Kunsthaus Bregenz".
It's imagined to be an extention of the existing memorial, porous allowing clear flow of traffic through the building to the memorial and clear circulation inside the museum as well.
The building served programmtic, functional and regulatory requirements put forth by the faculty.
The programs include cafe, interior court, service, library and of course gallery among a certain amount of exterior space. The base of the design was driven by simple geometry which was adjusted to the required square footage program as well as able to serve the structural requirements.
The studio overall began with site documentation, research, enviormental concerns and regulatory information and designs developed over time. This project, like many of my collegues was a challenge due to the Covid-19 Pandemic but resulted in a lot of education and success and well, graduation.
